During India’s last match of the 2021 T20 World Cup, i.e, yesterday’s clash between the Blues and Namibia, the Indian players could be seen wearing a black ribbon around their arms. The reason for the same has now gone viral and it is extremely heartwarming.
BCCI clarified moments before the match that the Indian players will be wearing a black ribbon around their arms in order to pay a tribute to Dronacharya awardee coach Tarak Sinha, who has been a guide and a mentor to hundreds of famous cricketers including our very own Rishabh Pant.
He was a great coach and an able mentor and guided loads of talents to greatness. Rishabh Pant was particularly very emotional on hearing the news of his demise. Moments after the news went viral, the Indian wicket-keeper took to Instagram to share his condolences. He wrote, “My mentor, coach, motivator, biggest critic and family . I don’t even know where to start with this one. I am devastated. You took care of me as your son . You will always be with me whenever I walk out onto the field. My heartfelt condolences and prayers. May your soul rest in peace, I will miss you Tarak sir.”
Announcing the decision, BCCI wrote on twitter, “Team India is wearing black armbands today to pay their tributes to Dronacharya Awardee and widely respected coach Shri Tarak Sinha, who sadly passed away on Saturday.”
India went on to win the match against Namibia at ease by a big margin of 9 wickets and ended their T20 World Cup campaign in style.
